New York, NY, November 16, 2023 – La MaMa Galleria is honored to present the opening of Brazilian artist Rafaella Braga: The Birds Told Me Your Lies, on Thursday, November 16th. The exhibition explores the range and evolution of Braga’s work and features a major collection of her newest series. The exhibition will be on view through December 7th.

In the ever-changing tapestry of existence, the phenomenon of self-evolution stands as a testament to the boundless potential within each of us. "The Birds Told Me Your Lies" is a commemoration of the profound transformation that occurs when individuals embark on a path of self-discovery, growth, and realization. For the Berlin based artist, painting is a spiritual practice of self-reflection, releasing something that rings clear through the emotional nature of her pieces, expressing her visions on massive canvases that span entire walls with chaotic strokes, paint drips, and distorted figures. The giant figures are mythical creatures, sharing Braga's experiences, acting as the keepers of her many secrets. Bragas canvas becomes another dimension, in which the mythical creatures become a part of her. Like a dance, she develops an exchange of her deepest thoughts, in which she seeks to give something back to them.

“The Birds Told Me Your Lies” is an exhibition that invites you to embark on a contemplative journey, exploring the multifaceted nature of personal evolution. It offers a tender moment of trust, where the unseen that envelops and surrounds us is considered, to process and expand in the form of expression, the language of the divine mind. A way to offer a chance to be in silence, clearing the perspectives of others, in order to involve gracefully, releasing criticism in order to feed our true purpose. As a map to the inner world, where you can learn to call onto your intuition as your spirit guide. Here the artist intends to create a platform for transformation, a temple, implicating our ancestral paths, cultural and multiplanar existences, with her figures representing moments of care and transformation. Each brushstroke is a testament to the human spirit's innate capacity for change and adaptation. This exhibition beckons us to consider the profound impact of external influences, internal struggles, and the resilience required to navigate the complexities of life. Through these works of art, we witness the raw beauty of transformation and the emergence of a stronger, more authentic self.
